No. Messages and media are stored on your device and in the hidden app folder of your own Google Drive. No server of ours sees them. All we know is that you are signed in and your subscription state.

No. WaChat is independent and not affiliated with WhatsApp or Meta. It reads the WhatsApp backup that is already on your device, with your own key.

Because WhatsApp's local backup is encrypted with it. Without it no app can open it — which is exactly what keeps your data safe. The key never leaves your device.

Since October 2025 the default is a passkey. Turn the encrypted backup off and on again and choose "Use 64-digit encryption key instead". The app walks you through it.

The browser reads files straight from your Drive with a token of your own. The server only issues the token and never touches a file. You can sign out any device from the app.

Direct pull has been tested on a 336,000-message chat with media. The web loads chunks progressively and caches them in the browser, so the second open is instant.

Android first; the web works on any device with a browser — including iPhone and Mac — once you have pulled the chats from an Android phone.

No. You type the passphrase once in the browser and keys are derived locally with the same parameters as the app. The passphrase is never sent anywhere.
